After almost a week-long search, however, NSW Police say they believe they have found the body of the missing teenager.
“Following a comprehensive search, a body was located about 6.30pm on Thursday in Kyffins Bay,” they said in a statement.
“While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the 16-year-old boy.”
A wide scale search was launched earlier in the week after bystanders rescued another passenger on the tinnie, also a 16-year-old boy, however, couldn’t locate Bird when returning to the water.
It’s believed a number of witnesses on the shore were trying to communicate with the second boy to keep him above water.
Bird, an apprentice tradesman, and his friend are thought to have been visiting Yarrawonga from their hometown of Shepparton, 80 km away.
