Yellowjackets, which airs on Showtime and is a smashing success for the network, has recently been given an early renewal for Season 3.

Showtime has reportedly placed an order for a third season of the Emmy-nominated thriller drama series Yellowjackets.

The news comes exactly one year to the day after the network gave an early renewal for Season 2 five episodes into the debut run of Yellowjackets.

According to reports, the decision to extend Yellowjackets for a second season was influenced by the annual deadline for taking up the cast’s options, which falls in the middle of December.

This decision came more than three months prior to the premiere of Yellowjackets’ second season.

“With Yellowjackets’ runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast tracking season three now,” said Showtime and Paramount Media Networks president/CEO Chris McCarthy.

Yellowjackets Scores Early Season 3: Plot

Yellowjackets made their debut for the first time in November 2021 after being developed by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson.

The plot of the suspenseful drama series revolves around a group of high school soccer players from New Jersey who were traveling to Seattle for a competition in 1996 when their plane was involved in an accident in the middle of the Canadian wilderness.

Following the accident, the remaining members of the crew were forced to fend for themselves for the next 19 months, during which time they “descended into savage clans.”

The show follows two different narrative arcs at the same time: the first one describes the girls’ struggles to live through the year 1996, while the second one depicts their life in the year 2021.

However, despite the passage of 25 years, the girls come to the realization that “what started out in the wild is far from over.”

Yellowjackets features an outstanding ensemble cast, with Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief) playing the role of Shauna Shipman, Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream VI) playing the role of Taissa Turner, Sophie Thatcher (The Book of Boba Fett) playing the role of Natalie “Nat” Scatorccio, Sammi Hanratty (Shameless) playing the role of Misty Quigley, Liv Hewson (Santa Cla Adult versions of the children’s book characters are played by Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Tawny Cypress (Heroes), Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear), Christina Ricci (Wednesday), Lauren Ambrose (Where the Wild Things Are), and Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi).

The second season of Yellowjackets will make its debut on Showtime on March 24, 2023.

A year ago, Yellowjackets was only five episodes into its first season when it was already renewed for a second season.

The show on Showtime lived up to the high expectations that were placed on it by garnering seven nominations for the Emmy Award and more than 5 million viewers on a weekly basis.

Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco will also serve in these capacities.

There was a sound reason to spacing out the renewals at exactly one year intervals, which was done for practical reasons (the Season 2 pickup was announced December 16, 2021).

According to what I’ve heard, they were constrained by the annual deadline for choosing up the cast’s options, which is in the middle of December this year.

Showtime has released the trailer for the upcoming second season of the Bryan Cranston series “Your Honor.”

However, as the first renewal to take place since Chris McCarthy became control of Showtime, it also makes a statement about the programming strategy that Showtime would employ going forward.

He then proceeded to elaborate on his thoughts regarding the future of the Showtime brand and the content strategies that would surround it.

After taking over the premium network, McCarthy’s first move was to acquire the country drama limited series George and Tammy, which was produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and was a free agent because Spectrum had pulled away from scripted originals.

This was McCarthy’s first pickup move since taking over the premium network.

“As we move forward into 2023 and beyond, our strategy is to play to Showtime’s strengths by concentrating on three primary facets that have served as the foundation of the brand.

McCarthy stated that the company would continue to focus on creating “complex and subversive antiheroes” like Dexter and Yellowjackets, “powerful high-stakes worlds” like Homeland and Billions, and “unconventional cultural takes” like The L Word and The Chi. “

All of this will be done with an eye toward making the biggest hits possible and building them into hit franchises as we have done very successfully across the company,” McCarthy said.

“These franchises have helped to drive Paramount+ to the fastest-growing streaming service in the United States for two years in a row, and now we are excited to bring this franchise thinking into the great set of hit series that have defined Showtime.”

“From Yellowstone to South Park and to our global unscripted formats, these franchises have helped to drive Paramount+ to the fastest-growing streaming service in the United States.”

The success of Showtime’s series in streaming is becoming an increasingly critical factor as Paramount Global mulls the possibility of Showtime being a stand-alone service.

Yellowjackets was able to deliver on this front as well, becoming Showtime’s second most streamed series of all time, behind only the Dexter: New Blood franchise.

The L Word: Generation Q, which is now running its third season, could also fare well as a result of McCarthy’s comments.

In addition, he reiterated recent statements made by Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish regarding the company’s goals for Showtime, noting that he wants “to make it obvious that the [Showtime] brand still matters, and the slate is going to matter even more.”

Bakish also mentioned that the record business will “lean into franchises.” “We have not made any announcements at this time. But as we approach into 2023, you will see that for yourself.”

McCarthy elaborated on Bakish’s statement by addressing the topic of the network’s franchise plan. She mentioned that the strategy would involve allocating resources to the series that had the potential to become franchises, but that “some shows won’t make the cut.”

It has been announced that the popular drama City on a Hill would no longer air on Showtime, making this the network’s first major cancellation in the most recent couple of months.

McCarthy stated that “we intend to use our successful franchise strategy to fuel the future for Showtime.”

This will allow “fans to make connections with a franchise, and franchises to further build the brand and our streaming services,” which will ultimately result in “building long-term value for the company.”

“In order to realize that full potential, we will take a critical eye on all series, asking how big can we go in order to place the right creative bets to be additive to the overall company’s IP bank,” said the executive.

“This means that some shows won’t make the cut and others will receive a lot more resources and attention; however, when taken together, we only see opportunities to further grow the Showtime brand.”

The teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of the critically praised Lucasfilm Animation series “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” was released by Disney+.

When the first episode of the new season begins, several months will have passed since the events that took place on Kamino, and the Bad Batch will continue their trip through the Empire following the collapse of the Republic.

Both Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang reprise their roles as the voices of the Bad Batch and Omega, respectively, in Season 2.

Wanda Sykes will make her guest starring debut in the series as Phee Genoa. Rhea Perlman will reprise her role as Cid, Noshir Dalal will reprise his role as Vice Admiral Rampart, and Rhea Perlman will also reprise her role as Phee Genoa.

The sitcom is produced by Josh Rimes and Alex Spotswood, and executive producers include Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Carrie Beck.

While filming on Season 2 of Yellowjackets is still underway in Vancouver, the production company eOne has begun hiring writers for the upcoming third season of the show.

Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress feature in the television show Yellowjackets, which was developed by Lyle and Bart Nickerson and received a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes for its debut season.

After the groundbreaking success of the first season, the program brought on numerous notable new cast members for the second season, including Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell as series regulars and Elijah Wood in a guest role that spanned the entirety of the second season.

Yellowjackets is a story about a group of incredibly gifted high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

The story is equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama. Yellowjackets tells the story of their journey.

The series chronicles their fall from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later.

This demonstrates that the past is never really in the past, and that what started out in the wilderness is far from over.

In addition to Sophie Nélisse and Jasmin Savoy Brown, Season 2 also features Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, and Kevin Alves in recurring roles as well as a number of guest actors.

Lyle, Nickerson, and Lisco, who also serves as a showrunner, are the executive producers of Yellowjackets.

Additionally serving in the capacity of executive producer is Creative Engine’s Comins.
