Maifud Instagram: Maifud was founded in 2016 on social media as a platform for sharing excess food with others for free, hence reducing food waste.

They learnt through time about the sad reality of their farms, where up to 30% of the crop is wasted owing to not fulfilling tight market criteria in terms of size, shape, color, or degree of ripeness.

They want to introduce their web platform to prevent food waste towards the end of 2020.

How does Maifud Instagram work today?

It is believed that 40% of all food produced in the world is wasted. 48% of this total happens in the fields, owing mostly to the stringent market requirements imposed to fruits and vegetables.

We prevent food waste by linking directly with local farmers to rescue defective products that would otherwise be lost at a reasonable price, and we provide it to our clients at close to 40% less than other online platforms.

We sell “imperfect” goods that have been rejected by traditional commerce because they do not fulfill market specifications in terms of size, color, form, or degree of ripeness, despite being in perfect condition to be consumed.

We help local food producers and distributors by paying a fair price for these previously rejected commodities. Then we sell them to our consumers at prices that are 30 to 50% cheaper than other online food sales platforms.

We encourage environmental stewardship by avoiding all of this produce from ending up in the garbage and by distributing free-seed fruits and vegetables in season.

Figures up until December 2022…

 

• We have rescued 86,228  kg of food that was destined to be lost
• We are processing about 10,000 kg per month from around 60 local suppliers
• We have prevented the 42.4 million liters of water necessary to produce these foods from being used in vain
